In short

  • The Match Attax advent calendar 2026/27 is due in October 2026 and is listed at £26.99.
  • Behind 24 doors are 96 cards, including 10 festive Snowglobe cards, one Infinity card and one rare card.
  • It’s the only current-season football card calendar we could confirm for Christmas 2026.
  • The Topps Premier League calendar on sale now is last season’s, and Panini no longer makes a Premier League one.
  • Save one bigger present for Christmas morning, so the countdown builds to something they keep.

The Match Attax advent calendar is the one card collectors ask for by name, and this year it’s a special edition: 2026/27 marks 20 years of Match Attax. If your child already swaps cards in the playground, a door a day through December is about as exciting as it gets.

There’s one catch. The calendar isn’t in shops yet, and the football card advent calendar market is full of look-alikes from last season. Here’s what’s inside this year’s, when it’s out, and how it compares with the others.

What’s inside the Match Attax advent calendar 2026/27?

The Match Attax advent calendar 2026/27 holds 96 cards across 24 doors. According to Licensing.biz, that’s 84 standard cards, 10 exclusive Festive Edition Snowglobe cards, one random Infinity card and one random Super-Rare, Mega-Rare, Ultra-Rare or Hyper-Rare card.

The set checklist breaks it down as 24 packs of four cards, so every door has something to open.

The cards come from the Match Attax UEFA Club Competitions set, which covers the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League. For the 20th anniversary, Topps has added a new rarity system, with symbols running from Rare up through Super-Rare, Mega-Rare, Ultra-Rare and Hyper-Rare to full-art Mystical cards. That makes spotting a special card on the morning much easier for younger collectors.

When is the Match Attax advent calendar out, and how much is it?

The calendar is due in October 2026 and is listed at £26.99. The rest of the Match Attax range launched on 10 September, but the calendar follows a few weeks later.

Smyths already lists it at £26.99, which works out at just over £1 a door, or about 28p a card.

Is it worth it? For a collector, the draw is the 10 Festive Edition Snowglobe cards, which are exclusive to the calendar. Those are the cards they’ll want to show off in January, and they can’t be pulled from an ordinary packet in the shop. For a child who’s just starting out, it’s also a gentle way in: a handful of cards each morning rather than one big pile on Christmas Day.

Popular calendars can sell out before December, so it’s worth ordering as soon as you can. If you see the calendar listed far above £26.99, it’s usually a reseller, so check a toy shop first.

How does Match Attax work?

Match Attax is a football card game as well as a collection. Each player card has an attack number and a defence number, and those numbers decide who scores.

At its simplest, as In The Playroom explains, it works like this:

  • Each player picks a team of 11 cards plus 3 substitutes.
  • One player attacks with a card, and the other defends with one of theirs.
  • If the attack number beats the defence number, it’s a goal.
  • The player with the most goals at the end wins.

Special cards add extra twists, and serious players build decks around them. But the basic game is simple enough that most children who can compare two numbers can join in. That’s a big part of why a Match Attax calendar gets played with, not just stored.

Match Attax vs Topps Premier League vs Panini: which football card advent calendar?

For Christmas 2026, Match Attax is the only current-season football card advent calendar we could confirm. The other names you’ll see are either last season’s or no longer made.

Why is the Topps Premier League calendar last season’s?

The Topps Premier League calendar sold as “2026” is labelled 25/26 on the Premier League’s own shop. It has 24 windows of five cards: 96 Festive Parallel cards and 24 Festive Freeze cards, and Topps UK has listed it at £24.99.

That’s also why people are still searching for the football card advent calendar 2025: last season’s products are still in circulation. A 2026/27 Premier League calendar hadn’t been announced when we checked. Look for “26/27” on the box.

What happened to the Panini advent calendar?

Panini no longer makes a Premier League card calendar. The Premier League gave Fanatics, the owner of Topps, the exclusive rights to its trading cards and stickers from June 2025.

So the last Panini Premier League one was the Adrenalyn XL 2025 countdown calendar, for the 2024/25 season. If you see an Adrenalyn countdown calendar 2025 for sale now, it’s old stock.

Which age suits a football card advent calendar?

A football card advent calendar suits children who already collect, usually from the early years of primary school upwards. The best sign is simple: are they already swapping cards with friends?

For younger children, the cards themselves can feel a bit abstract. A figure calendar or club chocolate calendar may land better, and our advent calendar guide covers those options.

For older kids, the rare cards and the game are the draw. Ten festive cards and a guaranteed Infinity card give them something to chase every few days.

Keeping the cards safe

Ninety-six cards is a lot to keep track of by Boxing Day. A few cheap extras stop them ending up bent in a coat pocket:

  • A binder with card pockets, so they can see the whole collection.
  • Card sleeves for the rare ones.
  • A small tin or box for swaps, kept separate from the “keep” pile.

Hand the binder over on 1 December, alongside the calendar. That way every card from day one has a home, and the rare ones never make it into the washing machine.

These also make easy stocking fillers to go alongside the calendar.

After the calendar: the big present

A Match Attax advent calendar is a brilliant build-up, but it’s 24 small surprises. Plenty of families save one bigger present for Christmas morning, something that lasts long after the last door.

That’s where a personalised book comes in. They’re not collecting the star player. They are the star player, scoring for their own club, and we cover every league, not just the big six.
